Tuesday evening the defending 2022 conference champion and regional semifinalist Lady Colt Volleyball team took on the Seventy-First Falcons, seeking their second win in the United 8 Conference. The Colts were able to tether the Falcons, winning 3-0 in straight sets. The win bumped the Colts to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
After a quick 2-0 win from the Lady Colts Junior Varsity team, the Varsity game kicked off at 6pm. The Colts got off to a quick start, taking care of business in the first set, easily winning 25-11.
The second set swiftly followed suit, as the Colts rally held strong, winning 25-13.
Helping out the Colts defense at the net were seniors Illyanna Johnson with 7 kills and 2 blocks, and Lilly Rayburn with 8 kills and 3 blocks.
“We have a very old team. A lot of us have been playing together since we were in elementary school which makes our bond tight. This closeness we came into this year allows us to have ample chemistry and remain undefeated,” said Gunter when asked why she thinks the team achieved the things it did successfully.
The win keeps the Colts in the driver’s seat in the U8 Conference as they eye a repeat conference title in 2023.
Wednesday, September 6th, the Lady Colts traveled to Moore County to take on the PInecrest Patriots in a tough match. The Colts came out on top with a 3-0 victory, keeping their undefeated streak alive.
The Colts edged out a close 25-23 win in the first set, setting the tone for the match. Seniors Olivia Melvin and Brooke Bombatepe led the Colts in kills with 25 combined.
The second and third set came easier to the Colts with them winning 25-20 and 25-16 to secure the win.
Seniors Payton Gunter and Addie Hudson led the Colts on the back row with over 30 digs across the 3 set match.
Thursday evening, the Lady Colts took on Douglas Byrd High School at home, quickly defeating them in three straight sets.
After the win against Douglas Byrd, your Lady Colts are now 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the United Eight Conference.
