On Wednesday, September 6th, the Cape Fear Cross Country team ran their second race of the season hosted at home. For it being their second race of the season the team has been out all summer practicing and working hard and ran extremely well.
The boys race was first but due to the heat it was pushed back and started at 5:00pm. We had 7 runners in the boys race. With Taylor Woodard placing 4th overall and having a time of 20:53 minutes. Jordan Price and Ben Castro Locklear came back to back of each other with both of their times being under 21:30 minutes, with them placing 7th and 8th.
The girls race was shortly after the boys race. We had 8 out of 30 runners representing the colts for the girls race. Lakin placed 2nd overall with a time of 24:45 . Grace Sherbert came in shortly after her and had a time of 27:13. “I felt like it was a very good first meet for me because I’ve never ran competitively before. The weather did have an effect on everyone, it was 95 degrees so it was very difficult to run in that environment,” said Sherbert.
“I think everyone did an amazing job. They came in knowing it was going to be a tough race, the distance was going to be a challenge, the weather was going to be a challenge,” said Coach Demchock. “I’m proud of the hard, strong finish because after 3 miles you’re gassed. Even when you had triple digit temperatures everyone finished hard and strong,” she said.
We are so excited to see what this season has in store for our cross country team. The next meet will be held here at Cape Fear High School on September 13th starting at 4pm.
