Starting a new year with new students, a new band director, and a brand new show, the Cape Fear Marching Colts are starting the year of 2023-2024 off with a bang.
On August 18th 2023, The Cape Fear Marching Colts took the field and cheered on the football team, helping the team earn their first victory by a score of 47-6. At halftime of the game, the Marching Colts debuted their first show of the year called Masquerade.
As the new members get a feel of their first football game, the seniors are getting a feel of their last, but it didn’t just start August 17th for these musically talented students. The work to pull off this show began four days a week in June from 8 AM to 5 PM, culminating in August. The Marching Colts worked hard during the summer to put on a great Halftime show, all the while welcoming and showing their Colt Pride to their new band director and staff.
Things are different when a student becomes a Marching Colt. It is different from being a student in Cape Fear’s amazing student section, a proud parent cheering, or a player on the field kicking, throwing, or catching a ball. The Marching Colts take their job very seriously, especially at a high school football game where an electric and intense atmosphere is needed.
“I like being able to play our music; I like being able to yell at the top of my lungs because that’s always fun; I like hanging out with my friends, and to have a really long break because that is just awesome,” said Trumpet player Emma Faircloth. “Great attitudes, good music, and amazing voices celebrate Cape Fear and their two wins on the season, as the Marching Colts keep performing on the field and playing loud and proud in the stands.”
For every home football game, the Marching Colts will take the field with spirit in their hearts, voice, and instruments. The Marching Colts will cheer and support the Cape Fear Football team every Friday, at home or on the road. The band plays on in hopes for a winning season. Come out and support your Colts on the field and in the stands. We will see you there!
