The Lady Colts made history in 2021 by winning the state dual team championship and were able to repeat that feat in 2022. They now face a daunting task. They are hoping for a 3-peat this season.
On Tuesday, September 5th, the Colts played a tough match against Jack Britt and won every one of their matches. On Wednesday the 6th, the girls took the court again and played beautifully against South View, as well. The Colts once again won all of their matches. They are now 4-1 overall and currently in first place in the United 8 Conference. The whole team did great and went undefeated during their matches.
Junior Shea Bieniek has gone undefeated so far this season, winning 6-0 in all of her sets. Andi Brinker, a junior, won both of her sets 6-1 and 6-2. These doubles partners helped send Jack Britt back to their ship, winning 6-1. Shea Bieniek played first court in singles on the team and Andi Brinker plays 2nd, and both are amazing athletes.
Colts doubles partners Brianna Keen (3rd court) and Ansley Thomas (5th court), took yet another win for the team during their doubles match against the Buccaneers, winning 6-0. Brianna and Ansley both won their singles matches with scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
“We stayed focused and remembered our strategies from practice to help us win,” said senior Ansley Thomas.
These double partners put up another great fight on Wednesday, as well, taking down the Tigers with a final score of 9-0.
While the Buccaneers of Jack Britt and the Tigers of South view put up a great fight, the Lady Colts were able to walk away with two very smooth wins. This season is already looking great for the Cape Fear Colts. These ladies are putting all the effort to make their way up to states again for the 3rd year in a row.
