Cape Fear’s Girls tennis team is proud to say they have come out on top once again! This week’s rivals, Lumberton and Gray’s Creek, really put up a fight with these challenging matches. Monday, the tennis team beat Gray’s Creek High School with a score of 6-0 in singles, and 3-0 in doubles.

Third court Junior, Brianna Keen, walked out with an amazing score of 6-1, 6-0 against Gray’s Creek on Monday. She hit some amazing winners, and some killer slices. Keen and senior, Ansley Thomas pulled out a major win scoring 8-2 in doubles. “Bri and I worked together in doubles and focused on closing the point off at the net,” said Thomas. Their teamwork definitely played a big part in pulling out their win!

On Wednesday, the team accomplished another win, finishing with an overall score of 6-0 in singles. New to the top six, on fourth court, sophomore Dani Fick won her game with a score of 6-0, 6-2. She showed off her athletic skills, holding long rallies and hitting some great shots. The Lady Colts scored 3-0 for doubles. Sophomore Sophia Bullard, and Junior Alex Jones, scored a win of 8-3. Sophia expresses her thoughts about their play, “Alex and I really had to work together and communicate. We worked to build each other up a lot, though, as well, which is one of the most important things because if we get too discouraged, I think anyone would start to be affected in a negative way in their game.”

The girls played well this week, and made the Cape Fear Colt family proud! Their conference score overall has been 6-0. Come back next week to see the scores against their opponents, the Purnell Swett Rams, and the Seventy-First Falcons. Go Colts!
