Our Women’s Basketball team is gearing up for another successful winter season. And there are several ladies to keep an eye on.
Last season was successful for the varsity women’s basketball team at Cape Fear. Not only were they our United-8 conference champs. But they also finished in the 3-A regional championship with an overall record of 25-5. They intend to return and win states after concluding their season as regional runners-up.
“We went on a historic run last season. I know it didn’t end the way we wanted but we have a lot to be proud of and more to prove. “. Stated the women’s head coach, Brian Graham. He expects the lady colts to be back and coming for more.
Graham did highlight a few people whose impressive stats we should be expecting. Teralyn Harris and Anijah Jones should play “hard-nosed” defense, according to him. Elisabeth Kirkland and Kaiya Starling are both excellent three-point shooters. Keyana Gage and Sydney Britt, two sisters of those who graduated with the class of 2023, have enormous shoes to fill. Finally, Jayda Angel is mentioned by Graham as having “added a few things to her BAG this off-season”. And that we’re in for a show.
The team has been working out since May of the last school year. To be in peak form for the opening game of the season, they will continue training camps throughout November. Graham said that the team often engages in team bonding activities to strengthen the sisterhood and enhance their chemistry.
“If we work hard, have some good fortune, and understand it’s not going to be easy we can get back to the eastern regional game and play in the 2024 3A Girls State Championship game.” So there is a high possibility our ladies in blue and gold will be back at the level they were and go beyond it.
