On September 21, The Cape Fear Colts traveled to Purnell Swett to face the 4-0 Rams.

The Game was moved forward to Thursday instead of Friday due to the probability of rain on Friday. The game was also moved forward 30 minutes for a 7:00 start time.

With the multiple changes made to the normal schedule, both teams would have to adapt. That is exactly what the Colts did as they conquered the Rams by a score of 36-14.

The Colts kicked the ball off to the Rams to start the game. That put Colt defense onto the field with a mission.

“This game was personal; their coach made a statement saying they’re the toughest team. But we pride ourselves in being the toughest so it was really about proving who the toughest really was,” said Marquan Footman, a junior defensive end.

Footman made a statement on the first drive, getting into the backfield and disrupting multiple plays. That disruptive mentality was exactly the statement the Colts needed, as the Rams first drive resulted in a safety making the score 2-0 in favor of the Colts.

The safety meant that Purnell Swett would kick the ball off to the Colts from their own 20 yard line. The Colts galloped down the field, but couldn’t punch it in for a touchdown, but did come away with a field goal from sophomore sensation Francisco Rodriguez, adding to the score and giving the Colts an early 5-0 lead.

After the Rams received the kickoff, they would try to match the aggressiveness of the Colts and put points on the board. They were unsuccessful in both, resulting in another Colt defensive stop, giving the ball back to the Colt offense.

After a very successful drive Favour Mutala found the end zone with 11 minutes to go in the half, adding to the score and making it 12-0 after a successful kick by Rodriguez.

“We came in, third down, we were running power right, and the o-line did a great job opening up a big hole. I was able to walk in for the touchdown. The o-line was blocking great all night,” said Murtala.

The Rams couldn’t put any points on the board on the next drive, and handed the ball right back to Cape Fear. The Colts didn’t get in the endzone, but they came away with another field goal to put Cape Fear up 15-0 with 5 minutes left in the half.

The Rams had another chance at putting the ball in the endzone, but once again were denied by the Colt defense. Cape Fear would capitalize with yet another field goal late in the half to go up 18-0 at the half.

Cape Fear was set to receive the kickoff to start the 3rd quarter. They’d drive down the field and score their 4th field goal of the night, putting the score at 21-0.

Another costly Rams turnover allowed the Colts to find paydirt again, followed by a successful 2 point conversion to end the third quarter with a score of 29-0.

Cape Fear would drive down and score once again with a rushing touchdown and extra point putting the game out of reach at 36-0 with 10 minutes to go in the game.

Unfortunately the Rams were able to score on back to back drives to close out the game making the final score 36-14 in what was a one-sided affair for the Colts.

The Colts will head to Seventy-First to play the Falcons this Friday. Both teams are undefeated in conference play. Come see who will remain undefeated in what has all the makings of a good old-fashioned SLOBBERKNOCKER of a game!
