The Cape Fear Cross Country team ran for the last time in the regular season at South View High School on October 11th. Even though most of the runners had never run on the course before, everyone had an amazing race with a plethora of personal records.

“The hard work that this team has put in has paid off big time, we had everyone PR. The team’s determination and drive is getting them across that finish line. They are making all the other teams sweat,” said Coach Demchock.

This week 14 boys ran for the Colts and out of six teams the Colts placed third with a score of 91. Khalil Marshall came just short of 10th place, finishing with a time of 18:37. Ben Castro Locklear was the second to finish for Cape Fear coming in with a time of 19:12.

“This course is one of my favorites to run on. Just the way the terrain switches makes it such a fun course. I had what felt like my best race out of the whole season here,” said Cohen Quintanilla.

The girls race started shortly after the boys finished. For the Colts, eight girls ran this week and they all did well. The girls placed third as well with a great score of 88. Lakin Clevidence was the first to finish for the girls. She placed 9th out of 48 runners with a great time of 23:26. Amelia Osornio finished just a few minutes after coming in at 25:03. Lucy Brinker, Kamiya McNeil, and Grace Sherbert all came 24 seconds between each other. Making this one of the best showings for the girls this season.

“I felt like it was a very good running day for me and my whole team. The weather was perfect for personal records to be broken, the course was very fun and difficulty in my opinion,” said Grace.

All the runners did extremely well this season and continued to show their dedication by continuing to persevere week in and week out. This was such a fantastic race for all of the runners. There were so many runners who pushed themselves past their previous limits with multiple personal records being broken.

Our next race is the conference championship meet at Jack Britt High School on October 18th. Come out and support your Colts!
