The Cape Fear Cross Country team ran their final race of the season at the VE & Lydia H. Owen recreational park for regionals on the 28th of October. Everyone on the team has trained for this race since the summer, they all have progressed a lot throughout the season.
“We just want to thank you all for a great season. We appreciate all the hard work from our athletes and the amazing support from their parents! We are extremely proud of the progress you all made this season,” said Coach Demchock.
This week we had 7 boys run for the colts, out of sixteen teams they placed fourteenth. Ben Locklear Castro was the first to finish for the colts placing 57th with a time of 19:59. Soon after him Khalil Marshall finished placing 75th with a time of 20:46, just 5 places behind him Javoni Brooks crossed the finish line in 21:00. “I feel like I had a pretty good run, the course is a very tough course to run,” said Jacob Evenson, one of the 7 runners.
The girls race started soon after the boys race finished. This week there were only 4 girls due to 3 out of the 7 not being able to make it, which meant they weren’t able to qualify. Lakin Clevidence was the first to finish for the girls and placed 41st running it in 25:22. After Lakin finished Kamyia McNeil and Amelia Osornio finished just 5 seconds apart from each other.
“I feel like I did the best I could with the course, it was a pretty hard course for everyone and I felt like everyone did very well,” said Lakin.
The course was extremely tough and definitely the hardest course the colts have run on all season. Even though it was hard, everyone persevered and pushed through it. This race wraps up an extremely great season for the Cape Fear Cross Country team.
