Cape Fear High School has been blessed with some of the best teachers in the county. This week, our students have chosen Ms. Ashley Johnson to be represented as Teacher Of The Week.

Ms. Johnson is an English 1 teacher here at Cape Fear. She has been teaching English for two years. She chose to be a teacher because she always enjoyed guiding others to reach their fullest potential. She enjoys the drive and passion students have that creates their success. She loves to watch students grow with their knowledge and that feeling like you’ve done your job.

Outside of the classroom, Ms. Johnson loves learning and experiencing new things. She enjoys the outdoors. Her hobbies consist of hiking, working out, and spending time with her family. When she is not teaching, she likes to explore new things. One of her interests is new adventures. She loves any road trip, vacation, or even just a cool walk outside.

At home she has two dogs, a lab named Cooper and a yorkie named Kingsly. They can be a handful, but she wouldn’t trade them. Ms. Johnson loves animals, as well as her family. She grew up with 1 older sister, and cherishes the times spent with her. Her sister has taught her to become her own person that she has now grown into. They have made so many memories together that will last a lifetime.

Ms. Johnson not only has a love for her family, but also a special kind of love for her students. All students feel that she is a kind-hearted person. The kind of person that puts others above herself.

“She has a very positive attitude everyday and makes her classroom feel welcoming,” says English 1 student Saylor Drose.

Ms. Johnson thoroughly enjoys teaching at Cape Fear. It has allowed her to grow as a teacher, and help students grow their knowledge and change their perspective on English. She admires the quote by Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

Johnson is known for her creative teaching methods and her love for classic literature. Her passion for the subject was infectious, inspiring many of her students to pursue English studies in college. Ms. Johnson is patient, and always finds a simple way to explain complex concepts. Johnson’s goal is to help students by making the class engaging with

“I’ve only had her for a couple days but I already feel she is a very hard working teacher that stays on task with grading,” says English 1 student Elizabeth Kennedy.

Her students always look forward to this class, where they discover the beauty of language and literature. She is incredibly passionate about grammar, and always makes sure her students understand the importance of clear communication.

Johnson’s background is in Exercise/Sports Science, but she was offered a job teaching English, and she jumped at the chance. She ended up teaching freshman students at Cape Fear. She will graduate with an English certification this spring. Teaching these students has given her many positive experiences, and she enjoys giving them a better education every day.

We hope she continues her career with us at Cape Fear High School. Ms. Johnson has made learning fun for students who thought it was impossible. The staff and students greatly appreciate her!
