The Cape Fear Colts had another tough loss against South View. The Colts attempted to claw back at the Cats, but were unable to secure a win.
The Colts fought valiantly, with efforts from surprising star, freshman Bryce West, who ended the game with 12 points. On the opposite end of the court, Junior Shooting Guard Arrington Kee attempted to help the team stay in the game with 5 steals. Senior Mekhai Coleman led the team with 6 rebounds.
“Most of my shot opportunities were just getting to the corner, running to my spot, being open and moving around, off the dribble and just moving around,” said West.
The Colts started off the first quarter slow down 5 points 7-12. The Tigers started with more momentum, and continued to pick up as the game went on.
Going into the second quarter the colts still couldn’t find their groove, only putting up 7 points on the board. The Tigers also kept up their consistent scoring, ending the half 14-25.
After the rough start, the Colts must’ve gotten a hold of something, because after the break the entire dynamic of the game changed.
“Southview was just press offense organization. We were in the wrong spots at the wrong time, allowing a lot of turnovers. Once the team settled down and focused on offense organization and slow down we were able to get more shot opportunities,” said Head Coach Alphonza Kee
The Colts came out hot in the third, scoring 15 points. Arrington Kee continued to excel on defense, feeding the offense easy points. Although they were doing good, the Tigers did better, with 25 points in the third quarter.
Cape Fear just had to make something work in the fourth and scored a whopping 16 points with the help of West. All while holding the tigers to 16. But unfortunately it just wasn’t enough with the final score being 45-66.
“We won three and lost the last two. One was a tough game against Jack Britt in overtime, a one possession game, South View just didn’t take care of the basketball, didn’t execute and that’s just the key guys just doing the right thing,” said Head Coach Alphonza Kee.
