The Lady Colts dominated the competition with two hard fought victories leading to a 14-1 record.

The conference has not been able to stop the Colts with a 9-0 record. Every game has been high scoring and defense heavy for the colts. The winning didn’t stop when they left the conference either; they have an overall record of 14-1 beating teams from all over North Carolina.

“We treat every game like the state championship no matter who the team is,” said Head Coach Brian Graham.

On Wednesday the Colts hosted the Douglas Byrd Eagles which led to a blowout victory. The Colts scored early and often and never looked back.

The Colts came out fierce and did not give the eagles any room to breathe. Early on this game became a showcase for Jayda Angel’s talent. Angel scored 15 points in the first quarter alone, ending the first quarter with a 24 point lead for the Colts.

The Eagles attempted to find their footing in the second but couldn’t pick up any traction. The Colts continued the pressure and kept scoring big. The fast pace and heavy pressure playstyle the Colts used proved to be a problem for the Eagles, ending the half 55-18.

Coming out after the half the Colts made adjustments that knocked the Eagles down before they could even take off. The Colts virtually stopped the Eagles, only allowing 12 points for the rest of the game. Senior Teralyn Harris dominated the Eagles in the paint with 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Anijha Jones played her best defensive game of the season with over 9 steals. With the Colts heavy pressure and Angel playing the star lead role, the Colts blew out the Eagles taking the victory 78-30.

On Friday the Colts traveled a long way to the Lumberton Pirates haven. The first quarter started with a quick pace as both teams played fast and intense, leaving a 23-13 lead for the Colts.

The battle continued in the following quarters as the Colts grew their lead to 43-27. The Colts defensive prowess was shown on the opposite end of the court as the girls continued to pull down rebound after rebound, racking up 37 total.

The Colts continued their dominant run over the Scallywags. The Colts put up 38 more points before the Pirates walked the plank, sealing the win 81-56. Angel alone put up 31 points on the night, followed by Senior Kayia Starling who put up 22 points.

“I’ve seen a lot of improvement in the team, in our passing and in our shot taking. We’re growing more and more every game,” said Starling

The Colts seek to continue their win streak 5 consecutive blowout games.

With strong help from the point guard Jayda Angel. In the last six games Angel has scored 169 points alone. Angel has shown time and time again she is one of the best in the nation as she puts up miraculous numbers against anyone she faces.

“It used to take the girls 2 quarters to make the needed adjustments, now it only takes one timeout,” said Graham.

With only six more games in the season, the Colts are looking promising for the state playoffs. Throughout the season the girls have dominated the conference without losing a single game. Jayda Angel, Teralyn Harris, and Anijha Jones have been stars helping the lady’s to each win.

The Colts have three games this week facing Purnell Swett, then a double header against the Seventy-First Falcons. The Colts hope to continue their win streak while preparing for the state playoffs.
