The Lady Colts continued their win streak winning three games last week as they make preparations for the state playoffs.

The Colts had a long week with three games in the span of five days. Purnell Swett, and a double header against Seventy-first extended the Colts win streak to 8 games and an overall record of 17-1.

“We’re at the point of the season where every team brings their best against us. We forced turnovers on defense and that led to easy shots,” said Head Coach Brian Graham

On Wednesday, the Seventy-first Falcons hosted the Colts. Leading to one of the closest games the Colts have played all season.

The Falcons started out hot and played with a chip on their shoulder, but the Colts kept their composure ending the first 18-14.

During the second quarter the game continued to clamp down. It became very evident that this game was going to be close. The Falcons made some adjustments that brought them back into the game. Despite this, Elizabeth Kirkland found her way in the paint scoring 4 inside the arc. The half ended 32-31 in favor of the Colts.

Coming out of the half both teams put heavy pressure on the ball and played tight defense. Despite the added pressure Teralyn Harris continued to shine like a diamond, getting fouled over three times, but still putting up an easy 14 points. The third ended 53-50 still in favor of the Colts.

Throughout the game Jayda Angel took drive after drive; she led the game in 2 point field goals and assists scoring a total of 33 points. With the Colts running the paint and locking down the Falcons offense, the Colts took the win 67-58.

“During the beginning of the game we were not playing as a team and running our plays. We made those adjustments during the second half and started to play like a team,” said Harris.

Teralyn Harris had one of her best performances all season. She played hard and tough fighting off the aggressive Falcons. Harris also locked down the paint for the Colts with 6 rebounds, and 5 steals.

The Falcons faced the Colts again on Friday. The Falcons wanted to get their redemption this game but the Colts came on top once again leading to a 72-57 victory. The Colts aggressive defensive strategy led to the first quarter ending 22-15. The second quarter wasn’t much different with Anijah Jones and Elizabeth Kirkland swiftly scoring, ending the second 32-24.

In the second half the Colts began to build steady momentum. Kayia Starling found her footing, scoring 8 points. Strong moves from Starling, Kirkland, and Jones helped the Colts secure the win over the Birds, taking a 74-57 victory.

On Monday the Colts destroyed the Purnell Swett Rams with the score of 75-23. The Colts started to pull away in the first and never looked back. Harris and Starling showed out, scoring 26 between the two of them.

The Colts played 3 games last week, racking up 3 more wins for their record. The Colts continue to play passionately with the hopes of making the finals in the state playoffs.

The Colts will take on another flock of feral fowls at Douglas Byrd on February 6. Show out and support your Lady Colts!
