The Cape Fear Colts continue their strong run in the state playoffs taking back to back blowout victories.
The Colts faced both South Johnston and Eastern Alamance leading to back to back wins, propelling the girls deeper into the playoffs. Against South Johnston, the Colts dominated with a blowout victory of 85-51. Much of the same story, beating Eastern Alamance 80-64.
The Colts faced the South Johnston Trojans on Tuesday leading to another blowout victory for the Colts. Jayda Angel, Kayia Starling, and Teralyn Harris all showed out for the Colts. With Starling and Angel dominating on offense and Harris doing the same on defense, the Colts beat the Trojans 81-51.
“This time of the year is all about doing the little things consistently and doing them at a championship level,” said Head Coach Brian Graham
The Trojans and Colts started the battle early with each team scoring back to back leading to a close first quarter. Angel came out the gate hot, starting off strong, scoring 13 in the first quarter. Backing her up was Starling, attacking from beyond the arc ending the first 18-14 in favor of the Colts.
The battle continued through the second half but with Starling and Angel’s great shooting the Colts held the lead. Harris was playmaking all night, adding up a total of 8 assists. Through the battle the Colts came out on top ending the half 36-25.
“I’ve become a smarter player, focusing on studying the opposite team and adjusting where I need to,” said Harris.
Coming out of the half the Colts completely changed their game for the better and started pulling away the Trojans. Elizabeth Kirkland and Anijha Jones found their footing, landing more frequent shots. WIth the help of Kirkland and Jones the colts took a commanding lead of 62-38.
The Colts carried their momentum going into the fourth scoring another 23 points. Angel already had 35 points and continued to keep scoring, ending the game with 43 points. Starling did much of the same scoring 22 and 60% of her shots being from beyond the arc. The Colts took home another blowout victory beating the Trojans 85-51.
On Friday the Colts hosted the Eastern Alliance Eagles beating the Eagles 80-64. The Colts started the game playing at a whole different pace than the eagles taking the lead 19-13. The second was the same story for the Colts extending their lead 36-24.
Coming out of the half the Eagles made adjustments to start catching backup but it wasn’t enough. Kayia Starling and Jayda Angel have been playing great together scoring a combined total of 56 points for the Colts. WIth the help of Starling and Angel the colts continued their lead of 58-44. The final quarter was the same story as the rest ending the game with a 80-64 win over the Eagles.
The Colts continue their dominance over teams from all over the state preparing for the next round of the state playoffs.
