The Cape Fear Softball team sealed a 4-0 win against Lee County. A much needed win after their loss against Union Pines last Thursday.
For the first two innings, both teams held the score to 0-0. In the top of the 3rd inning, Kalilah Dela Cruz got a diving catch in center field which pumped up the Colts into the bottom of the 3rd.
With the score still being tied at 0-0, Briana “B-dub” Wilson started off the bottom of the 3rd with a hit by pitch. Allie Dawson came in behind her and got a single, landing runners on 1st and 2nd. Alex Serbio followed this up with a line drive single to load up the bases.
Olivia Melvin hit a deep shot to right that scored two runs, putting the Colts in the lead 2-0. With runners still on 1st and 2nd, 2 outs, Karalina Tomasic came up and continued the rally with a single, adding another run to the scoreboard..
“It feels really good to get that hit and get my team going. I’m glad that the girls are always hyping me up. I was really nervous when I first stepped in the box, but I just knew I had to get in there and hit for my team so we could get the game going. I am very excited about our win over Lee County, hopefully we can carry over this energy so we can win this game against Lumberton,” said Tomasic.
Kayleigh Brewington scored the 4th run for the Colts in the bottom for the 5th inning, securing the lead for Cape Fear.
The Cape Fear Softball team has their first conference game today, March 5th, against the Lumberton Pirates at 7:00 pm. The JV softball team will have their first game of the season at 4:30 pm.
