The Colts traveled to Hope Mills to take on the Gray’s Creek Bears in hopes of getting in the win column this season. The Colts achieved exactly that.
Starting off the game in the first 30 seconds of the first quarter, Junior Attackmen Brannon Quinton set the tone for the game scoring an immediate goal to set Cape Fear up 1-0.
“It was a good game, but there is definitely a lot more room for improvement,” said star attackmen Jack Donatelle.
Donatelle scored 6 goals and had 10 assists. Donatelle was a leader on the field, and helped keep possession on the offensive side of the field.
Quinton also scored 6 while starting from the wing most of the night. The wing is a position during face-off, where both teams fight for the ball in order to decide possession.
“We did a lot better on offense, got to showcase our ball movement, and our clears were much better, we just have to work on ground balls,” said Quinton.
The Colts defense in the first half was stellar, holding Gray’s Creek to just one goal with a score of 9-1.
“We have a lot to work on, especially with our discipline as a team. Although we have a lot of season left and progress has been steady,” said starting Junior Defenseman Alexander Bridges.
Bridges put up 15 ground balls and 7 forced turnovers.
Later that week, Our Men’s team travels to Union Pines. Sadly the Colts lost that night in a hard-fought battle.
Starting off, the Colts were down 0-5 within the first 3 minutes of the game, but with some motivational words from the coach, our Colts finally got the momentum needed to put the ball in the back of the net, leaving the half 5-8.
In the second half, the Colts offense came out firing with 2 quick goals by Jack Donatelle and Tyveon Brock. Brock had a hat trick on the night with 3 goals.
The Colts continued to fight but came up short 18-10, however the Colts have 2 conference games and an out of conference match coming up. They are looking to improve their record and make the needed adjustments in order to be successful this season.
