Cape Fear’s student of the week is Emma Faircloth. She is a sophomore student athlete. Emma is very involved in school activities. She is a part of JV soccer, Colts for Christ, Band, and Marching Band.

Emma was born in Hawaii because both of her parents were stationed there at the time. After her parents divorced when she was three both parents moved to North Carolina so they could stay close. She has two brothers Cooper (15) and Owen (14). Emma has one younger sister Kelci (12).

When Emma was younger her favorite thing to do was play with her dog Perry who is a boxer-pitbull. She currently likes to skate, read and play soccer. She likes romance books and her favorite book is ‘Twisted Hate’ by Ana Huang.

Emma has been playing soccer for three years. She plays left forward and left defense for the Cape Fear Junior Varsity team. When Emma was younger she played basketball and softball for about 7 years. She is also part of the marching band, this is her first year and she really enjoys it.

“I love it, it’s like one of my favorite things,” said Faircloth.

In the future Emma plans to go to college to study Marine Biology or Medicine. Emma plans to attend an in-state school.

“Whenever I get out of high school I want to go to UNCW and study Marine Biology because I love Marine animals. I love the ocean and want to know more about it. I’m between that and becoming a doctor,” said Faircloth

One of her biggest role models growing up was her Aunt Jennifer, who often gave Faircloth advice. She had a big effect on her development as a young girl.

“Something she told me as a kid was to be myself. Do not change yourself for other people and if other people have a problem with the way that you are then that’s their problem,” said Faircloth

Emma’s favorite class is band, in which she has been a participant since 6th grade. Her favorite teacher is Mr. Jorgensen, the Cape Fear High School band director.

“Emma Faircloth is an absolutely wonderful student; she’s one of our best trumpet players, and she’s only a sophomore. I’m very excited to see the leadership she’s going to bring to our program in the future. I know she’s going to be one of our top players. She definitely brings a brightness, a joy, and a happiness to our classroom setting, you never see her upset at all. She’s always happy, always willing to try her best and most importantly she’s always willing to help out other students that might be struggling with something she can do,” said Mr. Jorgensen.

The most influential person in her life is her dad. He taught her everything she knows about being a strong and independent person. His influence shows in everything she does.

“Through everything we’ve been through, he’s always been there for me, and he supports me in every decision that I make. He loves me, and I love him, and he’s the best person ever.”

In closing, something Emma wants everyone to know is:

“Don’t change yourself because other people talk about you. Take the hate and use it as motivation.”

Congratulations Emma, you are our CFNN Student of the Week.
