The Baseball team had a successful week, including a vital conference win and a big victory over non-conference rival Midway Highschool. After a week of losses, the Colts are back ready to conquer.

Senior Mason Hughes had his first home run of the season and it will probably be the first of many to travel beyond the fence. Hughes went 2 for 2 against Midway, holding his batting average at 0.500.

“Having the first homerun of the season is a big accomplishment and it’s good to get the first one out of the way,” said Hughes.

Freshman Landon Underwood continues to show his potential on the field as he contributed a double against a very challenging team. He also alternates between left field and right field, executing very strong defensive plays.

“The team as a whole needs to work on batting and keeping an overall energy throughout the entire game,” said Underwood.

The team prepares for each game by challenging themselves in practices and fixing mistakes from previous games. Each week brings on a new set of teams with a different set of skills.

Sophomore Catcher Ben Martinez stepped up to the plate going 1 for 1. He also had the chance to throw out five runners during the 71st game, throwing all five out.

“We had a lot of hits down the 3rd base line allowing us to secure many runs and get the win,” said Martinez.

Junior Jackson Rainey puts in hard work throughout the past few weeks securing runs and improving his batting average. Defensively Rainey holds a fielding average of 0.875.

“I put the extra work in especially on my hitting and it’s been going up from there,” said Rainey.

The team prepares for their next week of games against a group of very challenging teams and are hoping to secure all three victories against Jack britt, Lee County, and South View.
