The Baseball team is on fire, consecutively winning the past 6 games back to back. Last week the team took on Jack Britt winning 12-0, South View 18-1, and Lee County 11-3.
On Tuesday the Colts took a trip to Jack Britt to take on the Buccaneers in a United8 Conference Match-up.
Leading the Colts were Senior Catcher Lucca Pascarella who went 3 for 3 with a triple and RBI on the night. Ethan Plesser’s bat was also hot, going 2 for 4 at the plate. He raked in 2 RBIs.
Freshman Sensation Landon Underwood came away with two stolen bases, scoring on both of his attempts.
Pitching and Defense was stellar, with Ethan Plesser also being hot on the mound. Plesser racked up 14 strikeouts in 6 innings. The defense was there to support Plesser and had no errors on the night.
The Colts took the field against the South View Tigers the very next day. The Colts were able to showcase their ability, execute solid plays, and secure the victory.
Junior Mason Hope hit Cape Fear’s second home run of the season (his first), continuing to improve his overall playing ability.
“Hitting the second homerun of the season was amazing. Being able to experience that moment with my teammates and helping us get the win over South View really fueled us going into the game against Lee county,” said Hope.
The underclassmen on the team include Sophomore Ben Martinez and Freshman Logan Rayburn. The young superstars are beginning to make a name for themselves as they step up into their roles.
Ben assumed the catching duties after teammate Lucca Pascarella was injured against Jack Britt. He made the most of the opportunity going 3 for 4 at the plate with 3 RBI’s and 2 Doubles.
“I’m catching the ball out of the pitcher’s hands and seeing the ball, hitting the ball,” said Martinez.
Super Slugger Mason Hughes went 3 for 5, finishing the night with 3 singles and 1 RBI. Hughes also racked up 3 stolen bases. He currently leads the state in stolen bases with 20.
To round out the week the Colts took on Lee County at home. Cape Fear looked to avenge an early season loss where they gave up 9 unanswered runs, losing 9-8.
It was obvious that the Colts were focused and intent on winning the rematch. Every Colt in the lineup collected at least 1 hit.
Mason Hughes led the night going 3 for 4 with an RBI and 3 more stolen bases. Jackson Rainey broke out of an early season slump going 2 for 3 at the plate, bringing in 2 more runs for Cape Fear.
The underclassmen continued to shine, putting in a veteran-worthy performance for the Colts. Landon Underwood went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI and 1 Double. Brycen Talley went 2 for 3 with 1 run scored and 2 stolen bases.
Logan Rayburn was on the mound and handled the pressure extremely well. He ended the game with a 1.50 ERA and continues to be a solid performer.
“Pitching on Varsity is a very big accomplishment for me just as a Freshman, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me,” said Rayburn.
Playing three games in a week is difficult, especially when the competition is as fierce as what the Colts faced this week. The team maintains their energy in games as well as practices and continues to stay in rhythm.
“I tell them all the time, you can’t get on too high of a wave because you’re gonna crash; can’t get too low because you can’t get out of that,” said Coach Britt.
The Colts have now won 6 games in a row and are looking to build on that in their game against Grays Creek tonight at 7. Good luck, Men.
