Here at Cape Fear High School we are blessed with some of the best teachers and staff in the county. This week, our students have chosen Jason Britt. We are so lucky to have him working with us!

Mr. Britt teaches Chorus and A.P. Music Theory. He came to Cape Fear in 1996 after teaching band for one year at Armstrong Middle School. Britt graduated from Cape Fear in 1987. The Chorus teacher that taught him was retiring and she recommended Mr. Britt for the job.

Mr. Britt has taught for 30 years, and he will be retiring after this year. Every year Cape Fear High School has continued to have a successful chorus program. Mr. Britt has helped students increase their confidence more than they could ever imagine.

“It’s never a dull moment in my classroom. I’ve had the privilege to teach some wonderful, talented students,” says Mr. Britt.

Mr. Britt’s family owns a striping business for parking lot painting which consumes most of his time outside of school. He also likes to spend his free time golfing and spending as much time as he can with his grandson.

Mr. Britt cherishes seeing and spending time with his family. He has one brother who is now a retired Sheriff Deputy. He is married and has a daughter named Jessica. He has a son-in-law named Robbie and a grandson named Jack.

Being a chorus teacher was unexpected at first for Mr. Britt. He started as a Chemistry major headed for Pharmacy School. He then changed his major after some coaxing from friends majoring in music. Mr. Britt knew that what he really wanted to do was teach. He attended Methodist College for his Bachelor’s degree and East Carolina for his Masters degree.

In the classroom, Mr. Britt usually has a routine his students follow. They work on music theory and learn how to listen to music. Mr. Britt thinks highly of every single student that goes through his class and he aspires to help them grow in singing.

Mr. Britt grew up here in Eastover. He attended Armstrong Junior High and Cape Fear Senior High School. While in school Mr. Britt participated in band, chorus, basketball, and baseball. Living in the area for so long had many benefits for Mr. Britt, with that being how he got to be a chorus teacher here at Cape Fear.

Everyday Mr. Britt’s students look forward to going to his class. It’s somewhere they can be themselves and not feel judged by their peers. Mr. Britt is supportive and helps his students achieve their goals with singing.

After 30 long years, Mr. Britt will be retiring at the end of this semester. Students and staff will truly miss Mr. Britt and the impact he made on Cape Fear. We are so grateful we got to have such a talented chorus teacher working here for so many years!
