The Cape Fear Baseball team made it 7 in a row last night after a 6-1 win over the Gray’s Creek Bears. The win puts the Colts up to 10-3 overall and 5-2 in the United 8 conference.
The game was locked at 0-0 through three innings until the Bears Braydon Lepley drove in Matthew Perez for the first run of the game. That put the score at 0-1 through four innings.
The Colts would answer in the fifth by tacking on a run of their own from Ethan Colletti. Things were deadlocked at that point 1-1. It was shaping up to be a true pitchers duel as defense and pitching were at a premium.
The Colts rallied in the sixth, scoring 4 runs on 6 hits. Evan Bunce led the charge with 3 hits and 2 RBIs, followed by Caden Jeffrey who went 2 for 2 with pair of singles.
“Being aggressive was my only thought the whole game; it felt good to be able to get the win off our rivals,” said Bunce.
Landon Underwood chipped in with 2 RBIs to help finish the night.
Ethan Plesser led the team from the mound, putting up 8 K’s and finishing with a 1.17 era on the night.
“There was a lot of talking going on before and during the game, and I feel like that fueled my performance. Once I found the zone it was over for the bears,” said Plesser.
On the defensive end the Colts were stellar, finishing the night with ZERO errors.
“Defensively we executed really well on the tricky groundballs and tough plays,” said Head Coach Jarrod Britt. “We had really good quality at bats to start off the game, and we finally broke through during the 6th inning.”
The Colts are now third in the United 8 Conference and looking forward to the second round of the conference schedule in hopes of a repeat conference championship. They next take on Lumberton today. Lumberton defeated the Colts earlier this season 1-4, but the Colts have been on a hot streak…
