Someone play “We Are The Champions” by Queen. Everybody knows the lyrics; sing along with the Cape Fear Girls Lacrosse Team. They took their first victory of the season against Jack Britt at Colt Country on March 14th.

The crowd’s energy was unmatched as they cheered on the team during a close game. Katie Martin led the Colts with 4 goals, Savannah Thornall added 2 of her own, Aideen Roberg and Cady Woodruff each scored one.

Savannah Thornall is a junior and is new to the Cape Fear Girls Lacrosse team, but she has already made an impact on the team. Thornall has shown outstanding endurance and motivation for her team.

“Our defense was absolutely phenomenal during the game, they continue to get better each game. We need to work on passing to each other but Coach Martin is helping and supporting us each day to become better players,” said Thornall.

Katie Martin is a three year returner who leads the team with 3.7 goals per game, 14 ground balls, and 11 points.

“I was extremely impressed by how well we played against Jack Britt. We were very strong in the first and second quarter. However, we need to work on our endurance to keep it up. We had amazing communication, great shots on the goal, and overall a very respectful attitude towards Jack Britt,” said Martin.

The Cape Fear Girls Lacrosse team is getting better and better each day. By beating their biggest opponent, Jack Britt, it is obvious that the girls have increased their motivation and improved their endurance. The girls now take on Terry Sanford on April 8th in a crucial conference matchup on Fort Bragg Road.
