The Cape Fear Girls Varsity lacrosse team took a tough loss against Terry Sanford on April 9th in an away conference match-up.
After the team came back from Spring Break, they were a bit rusty and finished out the game with a final score of 17-0. The team will use their mistakes as a way of learning new skills and techniques for their upcoming games.
Cady Woodruff, holds a 0.3 goals per game and a 1.000 shot percentage. He has been a vital piece in the Colts offense.
“We dusted the rust off and now we know what to look out for when we play Terry Sanford again,” said Woodruff. “For our next game, we need to become more aggressive on the field but our team always has an amazing and positive attitude. No matter what the score is, we always have fun playing a sport we love.”
Throughout the game, the girls never failed to support each other with good communication, persistence, and determination. Even with no scores, the girls never seemed to slow down.
Before half time, the Terry Sanford Bulldogs were already leading with a score of 11-0.
Ellison Sherrill, a junior, carried her team by scoring 6 goals. Not far behind her, Emma Garlington, a senior, came through scoring 4 goals and had 2 assists for her team.
After half time, Terry Sanford had 4 girls scoring for their team Clara Armstrong with 3 goals and Aubry Butler with 2.
The Terry Sanford Bulldogs had amazing communication, sportsmanship skills, and good team ethic.
Our Colts will learn a lot from this loss on Monday. What they learn from this loss will better help them prepare for their upcoming games next week.
The girls need to focus on cooperating better as a team and use that to the best of their ability to help them secure more wins in the Cape Fear Girls Lacrosse team career. Knowing our Colts, this loss won’t set them back, it will only motivate them further.
