On Tuesday. The Colts took the Purnell Swett Rams for the number one spot in the conference.
It was a hard fought game with not a single goal being scored until the final 10 minutes of the game.
The Colts started the game off strong, controlling the ball and keeping it on the Rams side of the field. Cape Fear put heavy pressure on the ball game and had multiple shots on goal. Hannah McGil controlled the field all night allowing the COlts defense to shine. The Rams showed respect for star Jayda Angel’s presence, double teaming her all game.
“We knew we needed to win this game against Purnell Swett so I had to put the work in while playing defense, ” said Hannah McGill.
Going into the second half the Rams adopted a completely different plan. Brooke Bombatepe took a wide open shot from the 30 yard line that went right over the goalies head. For the rest of the game the Colts focused on defense to burn out the clock. Goalie Meredith Wenthur had multiple game saves for the Colts. When the final whistle blew the crowd erupted with the Colts being the number one team in the conference and beating the Rams 1-0.
“I knew this was a big game so when I saw the opportunity to shoot the ball I took it,” said Brooke Bombatepe.
On Wednesday the Colt traveled almost two hours away to face the Richmond Raiders in an out of conference match-up. The Colts played great and beat the Raiders 3-0 not letting them breathe all game.
The number one ranked team in the conference showed out against Richmond Senior, shutting them out the whole game. The first half of the game was the Jayda Angel, she showed out with her lightning fast speed blowing by Richmonds defense. Angel scored 2 goals in the first half putting the Colts on her back. On defense Junior Andi Brinker shined, she had multiple stops against the Raiders offense.
“I always try to play like it’s 0-0,” said Brinker.
The second half was much of the same story for the Colts. Kayia Starling tallied up another goal for Cape Fear On defense, Meredith Wenther had 6 saves for the Colts playing a huge role in the shutout. With this huge win against Richmond the Colts record is now 12-3.
One of the Colts star players, Cape Fear, accomplished something amazing Wednesday night. Jayda Angel scored her 100th goal in her 4 years of playing soccer. Angel has shined in every sport she has played with over 1000 baskets in basketball and 100 in soccer.
The Colts prepare to take the whole conference head on with each time fighting for their number one spot.
