As The 23-24 Terms wrapped up for our student Government it was time to vote in new executive positions for the next term.
Multiple students were in a tight race for positions in the Student Government Program. The students were first to write an essay for what they plan to do for the school and things they have already done. After the students advocate for themselves in hopes of votes and also relationships with fellow staff and students.
One of the most competitive races for office was the Executive president. Multiple superlative students ran, including Brandon Simpson, Ashton Horne, Mason Hancock, Camilo Cuenca Calvo, and Kennedi Brown.
Brown ended up winning the election in a tight race after all the ballots were counted. Brown, who also won Ms. Cape Fear earlier this year, is very involved in service in and out of school, and has a great reputation in the community.
“I’m thrilled and thankful to be in this position,” Brown said. “I want to boost mental health awareness around our school. I know that’s been a big problem for a while for some students at this school and I just want them to feel safe and at home here.”
For Executive Vice President an underclassman, Brady Kennedy ran unopposed and cemented his position in the SGA program for 24-25. Kennedy is a two sport athlete who is a phenomenal leader and academic weapon in the classroom.
“I like being able to help people around the school and I think it’s very important to make everyone feel welcomed here and that’s what I plan to do,” said Kennedy.
For executive secretary, Andi Brinker won the student vote. “She has one of the best essays she read,” said Mrs. Lee. Brinker is also very involved in school with community activities and is also a student athlete as well.
“My biggest plan for next year is to get people more involved in school activities. I feel as if we can do so much more as students with events in and out of our school and it helps boost morale as well,” said Brinker
Allie Dawson will be taking over the load of executive treasurer. Dawson is experienced in SGA and won her election last school year as well.
“I want to help improve student teacher relations here and also help with the adaptive kids. I think it would mean a lot to them and it means a lot for me as well,” said Dawson
Last but certainly not least, Kaydin Brown was elected as the new executive spirit liaison for SGA. Brown will be handling school spirit, school activities, and student sections for Cape Fear. Brown was also a part of SGA last year and is a familiar face in the community.
“I can’t wait for next year. I have so much stuff planned for this school,” said Brown. “I want to be able to come up with fun things fast in the interest of all the students and staff at school. I have a lot of great ideas and I think that it will help this school greatly.”
Current President Virginia Horne, Vice President Brandon Simpson, Treasurer Favour Murtala, Historian Samara Culpepper, Spirit Liaison Ashton Horne, and Secretary Kennedi Brown have left some big shoes to fill. This group of students have worked phenomenally well together as they promoted School and Community Spirit. They showed respect for each other and listened with open minds.
“I look forward to seeing how next year’s Executive Council will follow in this year’s Council’s footsteps as they continue to look beyond themselves to promote unity,” said Mrs. Lee.
We all wish the winners of this year’s executive council for SGA a special congratulations and wish them good luck for their upcoming terms.
