The Colts took on the Grays Creek Bears and secured a 3-2 win and continued to march their way toward a conference title.
The Bears scored right off the bat, putting the Colts down 1-0 early on in the game. Star player Landon Underwood responded in the 4th inning with a game tying RBI. Underwood ended up going 2 for 3 on the night and continues to show his skill set offensively.
“I think I did really well and contributed to the team which helped secure the win,” said Underwood.
Gray’s Creek added another run in the top of the 7th after capitalizing on 2 Colt errors. This put the Bears up 2-1 heading into the bottom of the 7th.
The Colts never lost focus, though, as Ethan Colletti led off with a base hit. Caden Jeffery followed with a sacrifice bunt to move Colletti to 2nd, but an errant Bear throw allowed Colletti to move to third on the bunt. They were then able to tie the game on a sacrifice fly from Jackson Rainey, which scored Colletti.
Ethan Cobb was subbed in to pinch run for Jeffery in order to give the Colts a chance to win the game.
With 2 outs, Freshman menace Brycen Talley stepped up to the plate. He hit a line shot to center field, which resulted in a walk-off RBI scoring Cobb and allowing the Colts to win the game 3-2.
“I didn’t expect to come up in that situation, but I feel as if I handled it really well and executed the play to win the game,” said Talley.
Senior catcher Lucca Pascarella played all 7 innings, putting trust in the pitcher and his team.
“I know it was a big game but we honestly treated it like every other game, I stayed to myself and caught every ball like I usually would,” said Pascarella.
Junior pitcher Caden Jeffery executed a stellar performance on the mound with 8 strikeouts. Jeffery successfully led his team with his consistent and strong pitches.
“I had to really trust that my team would work behind me and help me get outs against Gray’s Creek,” said Jeffery.
The team continues with their week of conference games and plans to win conference champs this 2024 season.
