The Cape Fear Cross Country team ran at South View High School for their annual Jungle Run on August 24th. This marked the first meet of the season which debuted both the girls and boys hard work.

“The Jungle Run was a great experience. We had some young runners step up and have some great times and most of our runners set a PR the season already,” said Coach Demchock.

The Colts had 6 girls run and placed 8th out of 14 with Lakin Clevidence coming first for the ladies with a time of 26:02 and just seconds behind her was Kamiya McNeil with a time of 26:06. A minute after her came Amelia Osornio, with a time of 27:02. This was a great start to the girls season.

Once the girls finished, the boys started. They had 13 boys run and placed 2nd out of 16. Chris Shick was the first to cross the finish line for the team and came 5th with a time of 18:09. Shortly after him was his brother Collin with a 18:35 and placing 7th. Just 24 seconds later Jordan Price finished with a time of 18:59. Many of the boys went under 20, which was a struggle for them last year which shows just how far they’ve came.

“This was my first time running at South View and it was tough but knowing what the course is like now helps me in the future when we run here again,” said Chris.

This was a fantastic run for all of the runners and was a great way to showcase all of the training they’ve been doing all summer. Our next race is September 4th at Cape Fear High School at 4:30pm. Come out and support your runners!
