The Cape Fear Lady Colt’s tennis season has been nothing short of phenomenal thus far. The ladies season started out a little bit rocky, with a nail biting 5-4 loss to Pinecrest. However, that loss must’ve kicked the Colts into gear, since after that loss they have remained undefeated. The ladies tennis team shutout Lumberton 9-0, then continued to dominate, beating Union Pines 7-2 which resulted in Shea Bieniek’s 100th career win. This historical feat makes Bieniek the third women’s tennis player in Cape Fear history to reach 100 career wins. Then, to end that week off, the Lady Colts brought the Purnell Swett Lady Rams to a sweat, winning 9-0.

On Monday, August 26, the Lady Colts dominated the Harnett Central Trojans ending with a score of 8-1. Due to heat, the ladies played a 10 game pro set in singles, but the regular 8 game set for doubles. Senior standouts Shea Bieniek and Olivia Arnette blinded the eye of the trojan with 10-0 scores. Andi Brinker (sr) won second court 10-6, and was rewarded with the player of the match. Brianna Keen (sr) won third court 10-3, Dani Fick (jr) defeated her opponent on fourth court 10-4, and Hailey Ross (jr) won sixth court 10-3. Doubles were strong, with Shea Bieniek and Andi Brinker closing out for the night 8-0, and Brianna Keen and Olivia Arnette keeping the Trojans muzzled with a win of 8-2. The Lady Colt’s court three doubles, Dani Fick and Sophia Bullard (jr), lost a close one to the Trojans 7-9. Overall, a very strong win for the women’s tennis team here at Cape Fear High!

On Wednesday, August 28, the ladies kept the Byrds from chirping. Due to a lack of players for Douglas Byrd, there were only four singles matches and two doubles matches. All of the amazing Lady Colt’s seniors played in singles, winning 8-0 across the board. Brianna Keen secured her 100th career win that evening, making her the fourth women’s tennis player in Cape Fear history to accomplish that feat. She is ranked behind the incredible and fierce tennis players Anna Piland, Brooke Bieniek, and Shea Bieniek. Andi Brinker is not far behind, with 98 career wins secured by the end of that evening. In doubles, Bieniek and Brinker made quick work of the Byrds, winning 8-0. Fick and Bullard were put together to play court two doubles, and also won 8-0.

On Thursday, August 29, the Lady Colts tennis team clipped the wings of the Lady Hawks, pulling out a 5-1 win. Due to the heat, the ladies were unable to play doubles and singles were only played to an 8 game pro set. Bieniek won her match quickly, 8-1, and Brinker earned her win with the score 8-1. Keen dominated with a shutout 8-0, Fick lost a contact and was still able to pull out the win 8-2, and Arnette battled her opponent in a close match but secured it 8-6. On court six, Ross was injured and was not able to continue her match any further. Overall, another win for the books! The Lady Colts are now sitting at 6-1 overall, and are 1st in the United Eight Conference. Keep it up ladies!
