On Tuesday evening, the Cape Fear Colts took to the road for their first conference match of the season against the Lumberton Pirates.

The game started as a defensive battle with no scores in the first 20 mins. Midway through the first half the Colts began to pick it up as Junior Midfielder RJ Doran put them on the scoreboard with a solid strike into the goal.

In the second half, the Colts started with a bang as Francisco Rodriguez hit a laser from deep to bring the score to 2-0. The defense continued to lock down Lumberton’s offense and the Colts were able to leave Robeson County with a 2-0 conference win under their belt.

“I feel like as a team we played really well to keep them contained from scoring. I helped the team in a positive way that led us to victory,” said Man of the Match Gavin Gamble.

On the following evening, the Colts hosted the Purnell Swett Rams in their second consecutive U8 Conference match.

Midway through the first half, Senior Aiden Chestnutt scored the first goal of the game. With only 13:55 left in the half, the Colts threatened to score several times, but were unable to finish. Most of the half was played on the Rams’ end of the field, but the score remained 1-0 at the half.

Cape Fear took their one goal lead into the second and looked to build on it quickly. Early in the second half, junior Ryan Fisher scored on the Rams to take a 2-0 lead. After three more shots on goal, junior James Lucas was able to bring the score to 3-0 with a finisher to round out the scoring on the night. The Colt defense once again pitched a shutout, continuing to keep the Rams offense from gaining any traction. The defense gave Purnell Swett no chance of coming back.

“I took the opportunity to score on a corner kick, and we were able to come out with a win,” said Junior Ryan Fisher.

Cape Fear Boys now have a winning streak of 4 matches. On Monday, they will take on the Seventy-First Falcons at home. Come check out our talented team! These Falcons better watch out for the Colts!
