The Cape Fear Cross Country team ran on familiar ground at Cape Fear High School for the first time this season on September 3rd. Due to communication issues, Lumberton High School was the only other team to compete. Regardless, everyone had fantastic performances on the course and strong finishes. This gave the Colts a shining opportunity to continue progressing and making new Personal Records.

“Unfortunately because of communication errors we didn’t have a full meet, despite that fact i’m really happy with how all our runners ran. The girls set some personal records and the boys absolutely killed it claiming the top 5 spots. It was a great way to start the conference schedule,” said Coach Demchock.

This week, the Colts had 17 boys run and placed 1st with a perfect score of 15. 9 Colts placed in the top ten, dominating Lumberton High School. Chris Shick placed 1st with a time of 18:32, with Kayden Gillies finishing soon after, placing 2nd with a time of 18:57. Collin Shick was the next to finish with a time of 19:09. The boys crushed the competition this week and will continue to do so.

“I felt confident in the team during the race and I’m very happy with the win we had against Lumberton High School,” said Shick.

After the boys finished, the ladies started with 8 runners and placed 1st with a score of 17. Lakin Clevidence finished with a time of 24:07 and placed 1st. A minute later, Amelia Osornio came in 2nd with a time of 25:06, with Kamiya McNeil finishing shortly after with a time of 25:44. This was such a great race for all the girls demonstrating how much they’ve improved.

“During the race I had a lot on my mind, but my main focus was to finish with a personal record,” said McNeill.

The flat terrain and cool temperature with cloudy weather really helped the runners break their personal records and create fantastic times. This was an amazing run for all the Colts with them persevering through the tough challenges they had to face throughout the race.

The Colts next race will be held at Rocky Mount Red Oaks MX XC Course on September 7th for the Knights Invitational at 9:00am.
