CFNN Reporters: Lilly Jordan, Addison Davis, and Madelyn Nichols are here to keep you updated.
Exciting things are happening around Cape Fear and our club news team is here to keep you updated on all the colt happenings!
Starting off, Wednesday, September 25th, is National See You at the Pole day. This is where numerous schools across the nation will come together to pray around their flagpole. Colts for Christ will be celebrating by meeting in the morning at 8:00am around the flagpole located at the front of the school. Everyone is welcome. Colts for Christ is a student-led organization that is a wonderful safe space for all students. Colts for Christ also meets every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 7:55am for weekly scripture and discussion. You can get more information on Colts for Christ on their Instagram page @colts_4christ.
Next up, it looks like big things are coming for Science Olympiad! Cape Fears’ Science Olympiad team easily surpassed their goal of 30 applications turned in, which will allow their advisor Kelly Osornio plenty of opportunities to do well in competition. “I’m really excited that we have built Science Olympiad to be as large as it is today,” said Osornio. Science Olympiad is a team competition based club. There are over 20 different competition categories. Some competition categories include: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Engineering.
Even though they’re thrilled to have so many people interested in Science Olympiad, Mrs. Kelly Osornio is only allowed to take 30 students to competition. “Students are competing for a position, I’m going to be looking for who is the most prepared and dedicated,” Osornio said.
Since there are such limited spots she must choose who will help the team as a whole. “If you’re only good at one event then I’ll probably pick someone who is kind of midline in all the events because they’re going to help us be more successful in the end,” said Osornio.
Last year Cape Fears’ Science Olympiad team came in 4th place overall, but this year Mrs. Kelly Osornio says her main goal is to get 1st place.
Also…get ready Freshman! Cape Fears’ Student Government Association (SGA) freshman polls will open soon. Students must run for an officer position to be in SGA, but you don’t have to win to be in SGA. Freshman have already started campaigning by hanging posters up around the school and making social media posts.
“I am very excited to welcome the freshman into SGA,” stated SGA advisor, Amy Fennel.
The positions include: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Spirit Liaison. Students must turn in their applications by September 23rd at 3:45pm. Posters can be hung in the hallway between September 17th, and September 27th, and all posters MUST be approved by an administrator. All campaign posters must be removed by September 30th. Stay tuned to https://capefearnn.com/ or the SGA instagram page @cfhssga to see who our Freshman officers will be for this year!
