This week, the Lady Colts tennis team beat Southview, Douglas Byrd, and Gray’s Creek. These big wins have ended the regular season, making the girls the victors of the United 8 Conference.
On Monday, the team played the South View Tigers, catching them by the toe for a 9-0 win. Due to nearby thunderstorms, the ladies played an eight game pro set in singles. Shea Bieniek (sr) made quick work of her opponent, winning 8-0. Andi Brinker (sr) kept her foe at bay with an 8-1 score. Brianna Keen (sr) defeated her opponent 8-0. Dani Fick (jr) held her own on court four, winning 8-0. Olivia Arnette (sr) battled for her win, succeeding her opponent in a tie break 9-8 (10-6). Hailey Ross (jr) fiercely won her match 8-0.
As for doubles, the girls blinded the eye of the tiger, making a clean sweep. On court one, Bieniek and Brinker dominated 8-0. On court two, Keen and Fick worked together to win their match 8-0. And on court three, closing out the night, Arnette and Ross defeated their opponents 8-0. Great job ladies!
On Tuesday, the girls took on Douglas Byrd and won 7-0. Byrd only has five players, so that is five singles and two doubles matches. Singles was a sweep, with all the courts winning 6-0 6-0. Keen played court one, Fick was at court two, Arnette dominated court three, Ross beat her opponent on court four, and Alissa Fulghum (so) won court five.
On court one doubles, Bieniek and Brinker volleyed their way to an 8-0 victory. On court two, Arnette and Ross crushed the competition 8-0. Way to smoke ‘em ladies!
On Wednesday, the team traveled to the land of the Bears to go hunting, coming back with a 7-2 score. Bieniek didn’t mess around, beating her opponent 6-2 6-0. Brinker rallied her way to victory, winning 6-2 6-0. Keen defeated her foe 6-1 6-1. Fick battled hard in a tiebreak but lost her match 5-7 7-5 (12-10). Arnette also fought back but lost her match 2-6 4-6. Ross was a tough opponent to play, winning her first set 6-2 and winning the second set in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-0).
For court one doubles, Bieniek and Brinker showed no mercy even on the Bear’s senior night, winning 8-1. Keen and Fick went bear hunting, resulting in an 8-0 score on court two. Lastly on court three, Arnette and Ross dominated their opponents 8-0.
After this week’s wins, your Lady Colts now hold a record of 17-1. Going forward, the girls are focusing on their run into regionals and playoffs. Good luck ladies, and congratulations on being Conference Champions!
