CFNN Reporters: Ana Warchal and Emily Harris
Following last week’s match at Cypress Lakes, the Lady Colts were ready to defend their home course. They finished with a 291, good enough for another 3rd place finish; however the ladies were two strokes behind 2nd place finisher Gray’s Creek. Cape Fear’s team score of 291 was their lowest score of the season: a sure sign of improvement from the team.
Two Colts broke 100 and led them to their 3rd place finish. Emily Harris shot a team-low 93, Saylor Drose shot a 98 and Caroline Hales shot an even 100.
“It was nice to break 100, but it was even nicer to score the best I have. I was extremely happy shooting 93,” said Harris. “I wasn’t shooting well the first three holes. I started getting down on myself, but my coaches told me there is nothing I can do but forget and move on. I knew I had to forget about those holes and push through for both my team and myself. The hardest thing about golf is getting down on yourself. The best thing you can do is forget and move on and do better.”
Even with a storm on its way, the ladies were able to complete their rounds in a timely manner, just in time to dodge the rainfall.
The Cape Fear Colts are getting better and better, continuing to improve every match. With three matches left in the regular season, let’s hope they can push through and come out with a second or even a first place finish!
“I would say we’ve all improved since last match, and we were two strokes away from placing 2nd as a team. It felt really good to break 100 especially playing at our home course. Next year is definitely gonna be a tough year without our seniors but I know we are all mentally and physically able to get better and pull out more wins,” said Drose.
The Colts will have their next match on Monday, October 7th at Pinecrest Golf Course, and a makeup match on Wednesday, October 9th at Gates Four. GO COLTS!
