The Cross Country team ran once again at Gray’s Creek Wednesday. It would be the last time this season at the venue, and both the boys and girls teams took full advantage, jogging out with a first place win for the boys and a second place finish for the girls. The Colts lined up once again for a tough race, leaving nothing behind.

“The boys had a dominating performance this week; we took 10 out of the top 11 spots, and it was a positive performance for a lot of our athletes. All of our boys did a great job of pack running and keeping their pace,” said Coach Demchock.

This week the Colts had 15 boys run and placed first with a score of 17, just 2 points short of a perfect score. We had 9 boys in the top 10 once again, coming out on top. Collin Shick came first 24 seconds ahead of second place with a time of 18:32. Chris Shick came second with a time of 18:56, 10 seconds after Benjamin Castro Locklear finished with a time of 19:06. The boys once again rose up to the challenge and prevailed.

“This race was much better than the last time we were at Grays Creek because I’m more familiar with the course which helped me know where I struggled the most during the race. It was very fun and I’m happy I was able to win”, said Collin.

This week the Colts had 8 girls run, and they placed second with a score of 54. Lakin Clevidence came in sixth with a time of 24:03. After her, Amelia Osornio finished with a time of 25:40. Kamiya McNeil was the next to finish for the Colts with a time of 26:22. The girls pushed through the race striving to get better and better each week.

“I think this year has been one of the best years for the team yet. Everyone has improved so much at such a significant rate and everyone continues to push each other to be better as a team,” said Anamarie Brenes, one of the 8 runners.

Every runner triumphed against all of the tough challenges and overcame the mental game that comes with Cross Country. The Colts continue to persist on the course and in practice every week. Their next meet will be held at South View High School on October 10th at 4:30pm.
