The Cross Country team ran at Jack Britt last Wednesday. This was the United 8 Conference Championship and the last race before regionals. All the runners had been preparing for this race since the summer with the boys taking 2nd place and the girls taking 3rd.

“Practice all season has paid off. We had 6 male All Conference runners last year we only had 1 and we had 1 girl make all conference. All of our athletes saw personal records. We’re proud of their hard work and were excited to move onto regionals,” said Coach Demchock.

This week the Colts had 7 runners with 6 being All Conference runners and had a score of 38. Collin Shick came 4th overall with a time of 17:33. Chris was the next to finish just 10 seconds off from his brother with a time of 17:43, placing 5th. Benjamin Castro Locklear finished next for the Colts with a time of 18:30. All 7 boys ran under 20 minutes surpassing the substantial challenges they’ve faced all season.

“I realized this was possibly my last race of the season to prove myself, so I started kicking until I passed the people in front of me. Since I did that I placed 14th making 2nd team all conference,” said Lucas Wells, one of the 7 runners.

The Colts ended the race with one All Conference runner with a score of 85. Lakin Clevidence came 9th and was the first Colt to finish with a time of 22:20. Amelia Osornio came next with a time of 24:33 placing 18th. Kamyia McNeil came seconds after with a time of 24:44 and placed 19th. The girls pushed through the rough competition and will continue for the last stretch of the season.

“Every step I took during the race led me to my PR of 27:40, proving my hard work during practices,” said Leah Carter, one of the 7 runners.

This was a great Conference Championship, with cooler temperatures making it an even better race for the Colts. Many personal records were broken this week with it being one of the best races for all the athletes.

Regionals next week which will be held at VE & Lydia H. Owen Recreational Park on October 26th. This will be the last meet of the season and all 14 runners will be prepared to take on the hills and tough competitions.
