Teacher of the Month, Cape Fear’s biggest football fan, and now Teacher of the Week: Mrs. Kristen Johnson is an all around student, faculty, and football favorite. Mrs. Johnson is one of the best teachers Cape Fear has to offer, she supports her students both in the classroom and on the field which is one of many reasons as to why we chose her as this week’s teacher of the week!
Mrs. Johnson grew up in Colt Country. She graduated from Cape Fear in 2000. After high school she attended Elon University on a softball scholarship for one year before transferring to Methodist University here in Fayetteville to finish off her studies and softball career. Mrs. Johnson has always been a softball star whether that was from coaching her at Cape Fear to even being elected into Methodist University’s Hall of Fame in 2018! After College she started teaching back where it all started here at Cape Fear and is now in her 20th year of teaching! This semester Mrs. Johnson is teaching AP Calculus and AP Precalculus.
This year Mrs. Johnson took on the role of two new classes, AP Calculus and AP Pre-Calculus. Overall she has truly loved this transition between classes. Mrs. Johnson enjoys being able to teach upperclassmen and kids who have already experienced freshman year! She enjoys constantly not only challenging the students, but herself as well within the classroom so that she can help her students excel and grow even more!
“Mrs. Johnson is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She has this way of teaching that truly sticks with you. No matter what type of day I’m having, it always changes as soon as I walk in the door. Mrs. Johnson makes her classes fun and cares about her students like they are her family.” exclaimed one of Mrs. Johnson’s AP Pre-Calc’ students Rachel Leonard
Mrs. Johnson is married to Cape Fear’s very own junior varsity football head coach, Coach Johnson. They met when they both started teaching at Cape Fear and the rest is history! Together they have one son, Harper, who is 11 years old and in the 5th grade! The Johnson family is a football loving family at heart. From Thursday and Friday nights here at CF to Harpers games on the weekend, they truly have a love for the sport.
Besides being Cape Fear Football’s biggest fan Mrs. Johnson spends most of her free time following Harper around to all of his many sporting events and one of his newest endeavors, theater! During the summer the Johnsosn family loves to spend any free time they have at the lake. One day Mrs. Johnson hopes to even move to the lake!
Cape Fear has always had such a special place within Mrs. Johnson’s heart. It is a huge part of her family. Mrs. Johnson loves so many things about Cape Fear, but one of the biggest things is how it is truly one big family.
Mrs. Johnson has brought a new perspective to so many students within her math classes. Students have grown not only within the classroom, but also as students who will soon be entering the “real” world. She is a fun and caring teacher who can make your day so much better as soon as you walk into her classroom which is why she was chosen as this week’s Teacher of the Week!
