The time has come again, the coldest and most jam packed season of the year, the winter season. When the seasons change from fall to winter, so do the Cape Fear Bands and Ensembles.

During the fall season, marching band is the highlight of this program, having the more professional side of it all on display at events. With performances at halftime during Friday night lights, competitions, and parades.

A bit different from the fall marching band and concerts, but just like any winter sports program, this band also has their own winter activities from which they benefit.

Winter or Indoor Percussion, also known as Cumberland County Combined Percussion and Ensembles (CCCPE), is a group of individuals who perform inside a gymnasium, with only percussion instruments, all having a show of musical talent and choreography.

Combined, as the title suggests, consists of three schools in the Cumberland County district: Terry Sanford, Gray’s Creek, and our very own Cape Fear students. All of whom have their very own marching programs, which have exceptionally skilled students who have all marched in the fall season.

CCCPE had its inaugural season in 2023, and there has been just about the same amount of hard work put into CCCPE as any other marching program.

“I feel Indoor can be a lot harder just because we’re moving a lot faster, we’re playing a lot more notes, we’re in an enclosed area so I feel like, temperature wise, it can get pretty uncomfortable in both. Plus there’s not like a hornline covering us up, so I feel like it can get pretty challenging,” said tenor player John Horne.

As this season continues to pick up, this group of rhythmic, talented, young students will have their first opportunity to showcase this year’s show titled, “The Wannabe,” at Holly Springs High School on February 8th, 2025. Be sure to come out and support not only Cape Fear but the CCCPE students as well.
