The class of 2029 is informed and ready to begin all things high school after the Incoming Freshman Night! On January 14 at 6 PM, Cape Fear welcomed all eighth graders and their parents in the auditorium to learn what CF is all about and the many things our great school has to offer. The program was filled with performances and information to give these incoming students a taste of what it’s like to be a Colt.

As students and their parents entered through the band lobby, the Marching Colts Band played some of the Cape Fear classics, creating the electrifying energy we see on a Friday night in the stands. The energy that everyone gets from the songs played displays the hard work and dedication that band puts into every single thing that they do.

As the crowd ushered into the auditorium before the program began, Cape Fear’s JROTC showed off all the cool things that they do. They spun rifles with expert precision, never once falling out of unison. This showcased the discipline that this program provides for students, preparing them for future careers. There were even two students on the stage flying drones through different obstacles, to showcase a new class that CF has to offer. The drones helped demonstrate a fun elective to take, and it made the incoming freshmen excited about all the new possibilities.

When the program began, the JROTC color guard presented the colors, and the national anthem was sung beautifully by our CF chorus. The chorus followed with the singing of our Cape Fear alma mater. Through this performance the incoming freshmen were able to witness the prestige and pride our Colt family holds for all things we do.

Following Chorus came a 23 slide presentation. This presentation summed up all the great things about CF. Different administrators, directors, department heads, and teachers expressed to the incoming freshman the standards, opportunities, athletics, arts, and classes at Cape Fear High. Through these slides and personal anecdotes, the incoming freshman and parents were informed on expectations and saw the passion that every person at Cape Fear has. The clubs and academies at Cape Fear High are unlike any other in the county, and it was evident Tuesday evening.

After the presentation, the Cape Fear Dancing Colts dance team performed two pieces, one being contemporary and the other hip hop. They displayed the technique, dedication, and versatility that this program offers students. The team performed perfectly, finishing the program with the same energy with which it started: with electrifying energy.

“Being a senior it was bittersweet to see the incoming freshman for next year. I’ve truly cherished and enjoyed each year here at CF and I know they will too,” said senior dance team member Kaydin Brown. “There truly is no school like Cape Fear, and I encourage each incoming freshman to find their place and do what makes them the happiest!”

The care Cape Fear has for its students was evident on Tuesday evening. The Administration, Faculty, and Staff obviously want to make sure each student is taken care of and well informed of everything that’s happening. The Incoming Freshman Night was a hit, and we’re excited to welcome more Colts into our amazing family!
