The Cape Fear softball team had an outstanding 2024 season and are looking to only go forward in 2025!

Last Year’s Conference Finish

The softball team, lead by Head Coach Jeff McPhail and Assistant Coach Mack Page, finished the season going 18-6, and with a 10-4 conference record. The Colts won the conference tournament but ended up finishing 3rd overall in the conference behind Lumberton and Southview. 

Playoff Run

The team finished the season going to the third round of the playoffs but falling short to Havelock last May. This year, the team hopes to make it even further in the tournament improving off of last year with a still very talented roster. 

Returning Players

This year we have 3 returning seniors; Allie Dawson, Kalilah De La Cruz, and Jaden Valdez. Juniors include Karalina Tomasic and Kayleigh Brewingtion. Along with sophomores Addison Davis and Kloe Watts. This group of players brings hope to have a successful season!

Incomers

Amari Adams, a strong junior coming from Reagan High school in San Antonio,Texas will be starting a new beginning with the Lady Colts. Sophomore Paulina Dozier and Freshman Peyton Eason and Mckinley Kolasa will also be a huge help to the Colts this season. 

“I hope we grow to be a family not a team, and we all grow as better athletes mentally and physically,” said Eason.

Players to watch

An outstanding player to watch this season is Allie Dawson. Dawson had the highest batting average and on base percentage last year. She also led the team in stolen bases, runs and hits. Kalilah De La Cruz is another key player to watch, her speed is crucial at the plate and in the outfield. Dawson and De La Cruz are both committed to play D1 Softball. Dawson will be attending Elon University and De La Cruz will be at the University of Indianapolis. 

What does the team need this season to be successful?

“Our defense will be key this season. We graduated some key positions and need players to fill their positions,” said Coach McPhail.
