After a grueling season with many cancellations and rescheduled meets, we finally got some action from our swimming Colts.

The Cape Fear swim team battled it out for a Conference Championship this past Monday. The girls team brought home first place and the boys rallied for a hard fought second place finish.

The girls started out strong in event one with a first place finish in the medley relay with a 2.17.97 beating out rival swimmers at Jack Britt who were a second behind the Colts. This early win set the tone for the rest of the meet, and showed the other teams the Lady Colts came to win!

This was just a warmup for the Colts, because in the third event they took on the 200 freestyle. Standout swimmers Laniey Williams and Ameila Osorinio left with a banging first and second place finish, smoking the competition with a 2.39.59 and a 2.44.23 respectively.

“I think overall I performed really well, yes I wish I did better on my times but overall I did what I could for my team and it worked out for us in the end,” said Lainey Williams when asked about her outstanding performance at the Conference Championship.

The team had more than enough outstanding swimmers this week with Anamarie Brenes finishing first in the 500 freestyle, Amelia Osorinio finishing first in the 100m backstroke, Andi Brinker finishing first in the 100m breaststroke.

With a girls first place finish, the boys wanted a taste of the action. Senior Captain Mason Hancock battled hard in the 100m butterfly finishing with a lightning fast  1.13.14 and placing third, getting major points for the guys. Another one of our star swimmers, Nick Serbio also placed third in his event, the 500 freestyle with a staggering 7.04.01. Nick also  battled hard for 4th in the 100m breaststroke.

“With most of my events occurring either next or a couple events ahead of each other it really makes me gassed in the later events, I believe I should’ve  finished better in the 100 breast but I put all that I could into every event I swam,” said Nick Serbio when asked about his impressive performance at the meet.

With these stellar performances from our swimmers it’s no surprise the girls took home 1st and the guys finished in 2nd. Congratulations to the Colts for another outstanding regular season. Don’t fret, the swimming colts aren’t finished just yet, go support them as they compete in regionals this Saturday, February 1st at Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary. Good Luck Colts!
