After a strong showing from the Colt Swim team in the conference championship that saw the girls take a title and the boys take a 2nd place finish, the team had one more stop before getting out of the water as they headed to Regionals on February 1 at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary, NC.
As a team, Cape Fear finished in 20th place overall. Our Lady Colts put on an absolute clinic with many of our swimmers placing in the top 20. They also shined in the relay races, placing 10th in the Women’s 200 Medley Relay, 12th in the 200 Freestyle Relay, and 11th in the 400 Freestyle.
Lainey Williams was lightning fast out there, placing 18th in the 200m Freestyle, and 17th in 100m Butterfly. Williams set personal records (PRs) in both races. Anamarie Brenes had an amazing day, placing 16th in the 200m Individual Medley, and 12th in the 500m Freestyle. Grace Sherbert placed 20th in the 100m Butterfly. Katelyn Bowers placed 23rd in the 500m Freestyle. Amelia Osornio placed 20th in the 100m Backstroke. All of these ladies set PRs in their races.
“I was not personally pleased with my performance in my other events but in event 23 all 4 of us really pushed and supported each other until the end which helped us drop a ton of time and gaining us a new PR,” said star swimmer Amelia Osornio.
The Boys relay team also wanted a piece of the PR action, placing 15th in the Men’s 200 Medley Relay. They beat their previous best time by a whopping 9 seconds!!! Mason Hancock swam like he had something to prove, placing 22nd in the 200m Individual Medley, 19th in the 100m Butterfly, and 16th in the 500m Freestyle. Nick Serbio also showed out for the guys placing 20th in the 100m Breastroke. Both swimmers set new PRs in their events.
“I am pretty satisfied with how I performed at regionals. I PR’d all my events and won my heat with one of my relays,” said Captain Mason Hancock when asked about his performance.
We would like to congratulate our incredible team of swimmers for their hard work and dedication to the team. We also want to say goodbye to the seniors, Andi Brinker, Grace Sherbert, Mason Hancock, and Evan Smith for the hard work they’ve put in this team.We look forward to seeing what the next season will bring and how our newcomers will continue to excel and grow as athletes.
