The Cape Fear baseball team had an outstanding season last year, and are hoping to be even better this year! Read more for a preseason preview of the extremely talented Colt’s baseball team.

Last season the Colts baseball team, led by Coaches Jarrod Britt, Chris Hall, and Charles Cochran, ended with a 24-5 record overall, and went 12-2 in the conference. They showed so much dedication and commitment throughout the season, and never backed down from a challenge.

The Colts ended their season in the top spot of the United 8 Conference, but fell just short in the second round of the playoffs against South Central. This year we hope to see the boys advance further in the playoffs. Though we may have lost some vital players, including: Cole McCorquodale, Ethan Colleti, Mason Hughes, Ethan Plesser, Wyatt Barnoski, and Luca Pascarella, we still have a very strong and talented roster.

We have several returning players this season. Seniors Ethan Cobb, Evan Bunce, Jackson Rainey, Mason Hope, Spencer Smith, Brody Jackson, and Caden Jeffery bring a wealth of experience to the lineup. Juniors up and coming athletes have seen some time on the field and are looking to contribute immediately. Ben Martinez, Chris Serbio, and Nick Serbio saw some important innings last season. Last but definitely not least, sophomores Landon Underwood, Brycen Talley, Logan Rayburn, Teagun Strahley, and Parker Wallace are chomping at the bit to get on the field.

“Working hard at practice with the team even outside of the school has really helped us improve our chemistry,” senior Evan Bunce shared.

We were able to interview a few key players and got some great inside information. When asked, every player was quick to mention their biggest supporters are their fellow teammates and coaching staff. With their undeniable talent and great chemistry, they have a really good shot at taking it all the way to states this year.

“The coaches and coaching staff as a whole all do a really good job at helping us grow and work as a team,” sophomore Teagun Strahely said.

Coach Britt, teacher and Colts for Christ advisor, isn’t hiding what he wants to come from this season. When asked about his main goal for the season, Britt quickly replied “Win,” and when asked how he plans on keeping his players motivated, Britt said “Win a lot of games.” Coach Britt is keeping his eyes on the prize and will not be straying away from it if possible.

“We’re really focusing on playing better as a team this season,” sophomore Landon Underwood said.

A few key senior players to keep an eye out for this season are Caden Jeffery, Evan Bunce, Jackson Rainey, and Brody Jackson.

“This season is really hitting close to home. I’ve been watching players grow up all throughout high school, but now I’m the one training the little freshman, so it’s very bittersweet,” senior Caden Jeffery said.

One exciting game to keep an eye out for is always Gray’s Creek, and though it isn’t confirmed yet, we may get to face the Terry Sanford Bulldogs in the Easter tournament this year. Be sure to come out and support our fellow Colts this season!

As the Cape Fear Colts gear up for another thrilling season, the excitement is palpable. With a roster full of talent and determination, this team is ready to make their mark. Fans get ready to cheer on the Colts as they swing for the fences and chase glory on the diamond. The countdown to an unforgettable season starts now-let’s play ball!
