Lina Dozier, a sophomore at Cape Fear, has been making waves not just on the field but also in the classroom and community. Her leadership, dedication, and all-around excellence has earned her the recognition as this week’s Athlete of the Week.
Lina started her softball career four years ago, but before that she played basketball back in her middle school days. Not only is she a dedicated player, she is a great friend as well. She often attends her friends’ track meets and sister’s volleyball tournaments to photograph their incredible skills. Her grandpa has inspired her in many ways, such as inspiring her to play softball and begin photography.
This is Dozier’s first varsity season; last year she was on Cape Fear’s JV softball team. With this being her first varsity season, the pressure is on. She claims the switch from JV to varsity has been smooth, but it is a lot more competitive on the varsity team. Lina is the Colts first baseman this season.
Lina practices year round, and is also a part of a travel softball team. She feels like she is well-prepared for the rigors of the varsity season. She has spent the last few months working on improving her skills.
“I’d have to say it took alot of practice, not the physical preparation but I think the mental preparation is what did it for me,” said Dozier.
Though the season is just starting, Lina shared her favorite memory on the field is being able to make strong connections with her teammates and watching her friends succeed in multiple ways. Her biggest teammate supporters are Addie Davis, Peyton Eason, and Karalina Tomasic.
Not only is Lina busy with her athletics, she also keeps her academics on the ball. She tries to have very good time management to balance athletics and academics, and whenever she has time away from the field she is hitting the books. This makes her a great example of what a true student-athlete is. Her biggest supporters at home are her parents and her grandfather.
Lina is very faith oriented. She is a part of Cape Fear’s Colts for Christ, reads and annotates her bible very often, shares her favorite scriptures on social media, and attends REV youth every Sunday she can at Stedman Pentecostal Holiness Church. Her favorite music genre is Christian music and her favorite artists are Brandon Lake and Forest Frank. Her favorite bible verse is Ephsians 2:10 which states: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
“I’d say reading my bible every day really helped me to grow closer to God and has shaped me into the person I am today,” Lina shared.
Lina Dozier is a well-rounded student-athlete who excels in both academics and athletics. She is a dedicated player, a great friend, and a strong believer in her faith. Her hard work and dedication has helped her achieve success on and off the field. She is a role model for her peers and a testament to the power of hard work and perseverance. Lina has definitely earned the title of this week’s Athlete of the Week.
