The Colts Equality Club blew the ball out of the park with their recent project, the Feminine Product Caddy. It conveniently serves as a discreet way to hold feminine products for women. Period poverty is a major issue in North Carolina, with there being an average of one in four girls experiencing period poverty in high school.

This unfortunate issue is preventing these students from getting the education they need. Feminine product poverty can cause women to lack attendance, fail grades, and feel isolated due to a constant worry about basic hygiene.

Our very own Colts Equality Club, whose mission is to create a safe, inclusive space for everyone, regardless of their gender identity, sexual orientation, or background, saw this issue in our school and decided to act.  They observed how none of the women’s bathrooms at Cape Fear High School had any dispensers for menstruation products, causing an inconvenience for women who are in emergencies.

Conscious about this pressing issue roaming our halls, the Club decided to embark on a project to create the Feminine Product Caddy: a caddy that’ll hold products in girls’ bathrooms for girls in emergencies, who need an extra product, or for those who need a little more help at home. Because let’s be real- feminine products aren’t a luxury, they’re a necessity.

In order to maintain the Caddy’s. the Equality Club will be holding its donation drive until the end of the spring semester! If you want to help, drop off your donations in student services in the dropbox. While all products are accepted, the Club highly encourages overnight pads, super pads, and all-size tampons.

If you have any questions about the club or the caddy, please contact leaders Isabella Martinez, Jamie Spell, and Sid Murphy. Every donation, big or small, makes a difference!
