The Colt soccer team had an eventful week that started on Tuesday, hosting the 71st Falcon’s and winning 9-0 early in the second half. It was an exciting night getting to see new names light up the scoreboard and putting new combinations on the field that proved their success. After seeing goals from Caroline Hales, Andi Brinker, Alexis Young, Kayla Brown, Ava Luchetta, Grace Sherbert, and Naara Peralta-Reynoso, it was no surprise to see the Colts have a clean sweep and shortened game.
Center Back Caroline Hales has recently been playing up in the midfield. She reflected on this past game. “Switching from center back to minefield was a challenge, but it pushed me to grow as a player. Scoring goals for my team now feels like proof that hard work and confidence can change everything,” said Hales.
On Wednesday the Colts hosted the Pinecrest Patriots and fought to the final whistle, but came up just short, losing 2-0. Cape Fear displayed their determination on both offense and defense, keeping them in it for all 80 minutes. Although they lost, there was much improvement since the first time they played Pinecrest, in which they lost 5-0.
Defender Kayleigh Jacobs shares her perspective on Wednesday’s game. “I feel like we still have work to do as a team but I think we have come a long way since our first game. Something special about our team is that we are very close, so it’s easy to work together and hold each other accountable,” said Jacobs.
The Colts added one new win and a new loss to their record after last week, making their current record 4-2-2. The girls are ready to bounce back this week after their most recent loss, and are thrilled to showcase their hard work mentally and physically in a big home this Tuesday the 25th against the Jack Britt Buccaneers. As the season goes on, the Colts are getting deeper into the United 8 conference play, as they sit near the top being undefeated in conference so far. Other than playing Tuesday, the Colts have an away match at Southview on Friday.
