This week, there was no meeting on Tuesday morning; however, we had a 7:45 meeting on Thursday. Carter Edwards led the devotion, coming from Matthew 7:7, Jeremiah 29:13, and James 1:21. The main focus was wholeheartedly following the Lord. It was an incredible discussion, with everyone chipping in their insights and personal experiences.
We talked a lot about how when we love something wholeheartedly, we dedicate our time and energy to that thing. Whether it be sports, your relationships, or something else, you will constantly be giving up your time to do it. However, when it comes to spending time with our Creator, we convince ourselves that we don’t have enough time. But think about it: you’re praying hurriedly, while forgetting the One who created time. I think it can be helpful to reflect on how much of our heart we have given to the Lord. Do you give as much of your heart to Him as you do your sport, your family, your job? Remember that God calls you to give your whole heart to Him. That doesn’t mean half of it, or majority of it, but ALL of it. It is vital to our relationship with Him that we try our best to lay our heart and everything that we have at the Lord’s feet.
Another big talking point was about how the things we hold so dearly really don’t matter in the big scheme of things. That big high you feel after shooting a buzzer beater to win the game? One day you won’t play that sport anymore. That promotion you got after stressing and working towards it for the past few years? One day you won’t even have a job anymore. All of these worldly things that we cling to can take up so much of our heart that we don’t have any to give to the God who cares for us. We need to reflect on who, or what, has our heart. Everything in this life will wither away in time, except for the Lord. This is why the most important thing to be wholeheartedly invested in is your relationship with Jesus Christ. You have the opportunity to live your life, trying your best to follow Him. But, you also have the opportunity to act as your own king and indulge in the pleasures of the world. It is up to you which opportunity you will seize. Just remember, one day, you will come before the Lord in all of His glory, and He will either say “well done, my good and faithful servant” or “depart from me, for I never knew you.” Which one do you want to hear from your Father? I encourage you to reflect on who or what you wholeheartedly follow instead of Jesus. Don’t let your pride get in the way of your relationship with Him. He is more than deserving of your heart friends!
Thank you for reading, and remember to pick up your cross daily!
