On March 26, 2025, the Cape Fear High School Girls’ lacrosse team won by the biggest margin in program history, posting a 21-0 shellacking over Pine Forest High School. The girls scored an eye popping 13 goals in the first half, ensuring that the rout was on.

The scoring started early and often for the Colts, who were led by several Colts who scored multiple goals on the night, which turned out to be a historic one for the young program.

“I’m extremely happy with the outcome of our game. Offense was on point, this game was great practice for communication, passing, and shooting. I think if we continue putting the work in we’ll have this outcome a lot more often,” said Senior offensive starter Savannah Thornall.

Roberg carried the Colts with 7 goals and 5 ground balls, while Savannah Thornall and Katie Martin each had 6 goals, and both Addison Scantlin and Kennedy Engler scored their first goals of the season! Martin worked hard throughout the game with 9 ground balls and 1 assist. The Colts starting goalie, Susan Pate, stopped any momentum the Trojans tried to build. Pate stopped all shots on goal, totaling 3 saves. In the 3rd quarter she ran down the field to the Trojan’s goal and assisted Thornall in a shot.

“This game brought us more confidence in our gameplay which is something that will help us play better in our future games. Midfield had great stamina during the game, offense made smart cuts and good shots on goal, and defense picked up a lot of ground-balls and prevented numerous shots on our goalie. Our games have been the perfect balance of both having fun, and playing hard,” said Captain and Senior offensive starter Aideen Roberg.

Savannah Thornall was named Player of the Game after dominating the field, not just in goals but with her plays and attitude. Her positive energy is contagious, constantly supporting her teammates on and off the field. Thornall had confidence and precision with both her assists and shots throughout the game.

The win keeps playoff aspirations a reality for Cape Fear, which looks to improve on last year’s record in both goals and wins.

With this exciting win against Pine Forest the Colts are looking to ride this high into next week, where they’ll face the Terry Sanford bulldogs on Monday March 31. The Colts are ready to continue pushing forward and aiming for more wins as the season progresses.
