The Colts softball team had a busy week coming back from spring break. The Colts started off with a game against North Johnston on Monday, then traveled to South View on Tuesday.
Monday, The Colts came out on top with a 6-1 victory over the North Johnston Panthers. Allie Dawson batted 3-4, with 3 singles and 1 RBI. Freshman Peyton Eason hit her very first over the fence, also having 2 RBIs.
“It was a huge goal that I set for myself, and I’m glad I accomplished it my freshman year,” said Eason
The Colts didn’t have any errors throughout the game, making it harder for the Panthers to score. McKinley Kolasa pitched the whole game for the Colts. Kolasa gave up 5 hits and 2 walks but struck out 10 batters.
Tuesday night, the Colts were at South View High School for their second matchup against the Tigers. Earlier in the Season the Colts lost to them 7-1, but this time the Colts came to make a statement. The ladies got it done and shocked the Tigers with a 9-6 win.
The Colts started off slow while the Tigers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, scoring 2 in the first and one in the second. The ladies weren’t giving up though, and kept scratching away at the Tiger lead to stay in the hunt.
Kalilah De La Cruz was the first to score on a passed ball, putting the Colts back in the game. With the score being 3-1 late in the game, something big needed to happen.
The top of the fifth came, runners on, no outs. McKinley Kolasa found a hole bringing in a run making the score 3-2. Then, with runners on second and third, a sacrifice fly hit deep by Addison Davis to center field that brought in the tying run.
The momentum the Colts started in the 5th kept building, and they scored 3 runs in the 6th to go ahead. The Tigers were not going down easy though, as they went on to score 3 runs to tie the game back up late.
The 7th was scoreless, forcing the game to go into extra innings. Going into the 8th, the Colts knew they couldn’t stop there, and were hungry for a win after losing earlier in the season. They went on to score 3 more in the 8th with the help of Kloe Watts, De La Cruz and Allie Dawson to take the lead heading into the bottom of the 8th.
The bottom of the 8th was where the game could fall either way. The first out came quickly with an infield fly, but then runners were on with two outs. The tying run was at the plate with a 3-2 count, and the next pitch ended the game with a strikeout.
“We went into this game ready for a fight. The past 3 years we have found a drive we needed to get where we needed to be. I am very happy with the way we played as a team and am looking forward to our game Friday,” said Allie Dawson.
The Colts will finish the regular season off with an away game at Gray’s Creek this Friday at 6!
