Evanescence has long been recognized as an iconic band from the 2000’s, with their band gaining a worldwide fanbase. Now, with the release of a new single for a Netflix original series and a new album on the way, they are making a comeback.
In 2003, Evanescence released their now most streamed album Fallen with 10 million streams on Spotify, Itunes and other music streaming platforms. Their most popular songs “Bring Me to Life”, “My Immortal”, and “Lithium” hit the radio stations and made the band one of the most iconic bands from the 2000’s.
Recently, Evanescence released a single for the new Netflix original series Devil May Cry, a video game based anime created by Adi Shanker. In Devil May Cry, originally created by Hideki Kamiya and Shinji Mikami, a demon hunter named Dante seeks revenge for the death of his mother and brothers from demons but is dragged into a quest to defeat the demon lord, Mundus.
The game was published in 2001, with 30 million copies sold worldwide. Devil May Cry received a lot of praise for its supernatural plot, complex protagonist, and beautiful game design.
In 2025, Adi Shanker and Netflix worked together to create the anime show, set in the late 90’s to early 2000’s. Adi Shanker wanted songs from this era to make an appearance in the show, like “Last Resort” by Papa Roach in the show’s trailer, “Rollin (Air Raid Vehicle)” by Limp Bizkit, and “Butterfly” by Crazy Town.
But, whenever Adi showed Evanescence Devil May Cry, Amy Lee had a different idea. She wanted to write an original song for the show after falling in love with its art, plot and characters. The song’s lyric video, titled “Afterlife”, was released on March 27, 2025 on Youtube, reaching 1.4 million views and 91k likes. It was highly praised by fans, some saying it reminded them of the old Evanescence and some saying they were ready for another album.
Evanescence’s “Afterlife” reminds me of their album, The Open Door, specifically their songs “Sweet Sacrifice” and “Lithium”. Amy Lee’s voice is beautiful as always but has matured over the years, bringing a slightly more gruff voice to the song. The band’s drums and guitars provide a powerful sound that matches the show’s vibe, showing how they correlate to each other and the other songs in the soundtrack.
For Evanescence, Amy Lee has recently announced that they are working on another album after four years since The Bitter Truth, their fifth studio album.
“We are happily, deeply in the creative process on the new album and a couple of other side things like this,” Amy Lee told Loudwire when asked about a new album after Afterlife’s release. We are hopeful that the new album will come soon later on in 2025, sending joy across their worldwide fan base.
