CFNN Reporters: AbbiKate Daughtry and Addison Gunter

Coming back from spring break, the Lady Colts Soccer team was all gas, no breaks, putting up 18 goals in two back-to-back games versus Douglas Byrd. The Colts jump started their return from spring break ready to tackle the second half of their season in conference play. It was a refreshing start to the week to have 2 shutouts, and winning early in the games on Tuesday and Wednesday, with scores of 9-0.

On Tuesday, the Douglas Byrd Eagles traveled to the Colts stadium. The defensive end let no goals in for the Eagles, and the offensive end did their job as well, mercy ruling the Eagles with 9 goals. The goal scorers included: Caroline Hales with two goals, Addison Gunter with two goals, Shea Bieniek once, Kayleigh Jacobs twice, Mallory cavey once, and Naara Peralta-Reynoso once. It was an electric night on the field, with a radiating energy in Colt Country, as Cape Fear’s passion and drive to win the conference was bursting.

The passion didn’t stop going into Wednesday’s game either! Another mercy rule early in the second half for the colts. This games scorers were: Andi Brinker once, Shea Bieniek twice, Mallory Cavey once, Kayla Brown once, Naara Peralta-Reynoso once, and Hannah McGill three times. These past 2 games with strong wins and a solid amount of goals have put the Colts in an upbeat mindset for their game Friday against the Jack Britt Buccaneers.

Tuesday’s Player of the Game was junior Kayleigh Jacobs, and Wednesday’s player of the game was Hannah McGill.

“I really enjoyed playing out of my position and getting the chance to score goals as a defender. I haven’t gotten to score since freshman year and I love the feeling,” said Jacobs.

“I was proud of the team for having two 9-0 wins back to back. It puts us all in a strong mindset and good position going into the rest of conference play where we are pushing to be conference champions. I was glad to be able to help the team towards a win by goal scoring, but I am proud of the whole team because we all work each game for the outcomes we want,” said McGill.

The Colts are ready for their final conference games, playing Jack Britt this Friday, South View next Tuesday, and Grays Creek next Friday. The Colts also have a home match against Clinton the day after South View (non-conference). Come support the Lady Colts as they battle for the big win!
